Inflammation: The True Reason We Age And How To Avoid It
The things we eat and indulge in have an immediate way of showing up on our face. Think: pesky junk food-inspired pimples or dry, dull, dehydrated skin , etc. But when it comes to maintaining a youthful complexion, one of the biggest beauty is now believed to be inflammation.
Inflammation is the body’s natural immune response; without it we can’t heal. But many of the high sugar, fatty foods we eat send this natural process into overdrive, accelerating the aging process and creating premature wrinkles and dull skin that lacks its youthful glow.
I gathered up a list of foods to help curb inflammation and help you build beautiful age-defying skin.
Oily fish like salmon, sardines, and tuna are packed with Omega 3s that help to decrease inflammation. Incorporate fish into your meal plan at least three times a week.
The rich fiber found in healthy whole grains, as opposed to white breads or pasta (which can increase inflammation), reduces C-reactive protein into the blood stream, which is one of the leading markers of inflammation.
Garlic And Onions
Research shows that Quercetin, a flavonoid in onions, helps inhibit inflammation-causing agents, while Organosulfur, a compound derived from garlic, helps further boost anti-inflammatory properties in the bloodstream. For the best results eat the garlic raw, or crush it and let breathe for up to 10 minutes before cooking.
Perhaps the old adage holds true, life really is a bowl of cherries. Tart cherries are known to have the highest anti-inflammatory properties of any food.
Olive oil helps reduce inflammation, reduces high cholesterol, and it’s possible that some of the polyphenols may help prevent some forms of cancer.
